Myself

Blank lines drawn over your face like an artist trying to erase his favourite canvas

The curl at the corner of your mouth is upside down

A solemn frown laid bare across your face like the weight of a thousand questions is dragging your lips

The glisten in your eyes replaced by a surprise so desperate to set that gravity tries to pull it to sunrise

The noise surrounding you is balanced

No longer the static I used to lose myself in

Like a child staring at a blank screen that used to hold his favourite show

Or a once full restaurant closed for business but keeping the lights on in the hope of some custom

I see myself in you,

I see myself in everyone

Not in their smiles or laughter but that heart wrenching look at the ground when you’re told that you aren’t wanted

The desperate stare into the distance searching for answers to a question you never thought would exist
